PBI Nepal History
The first requests for a PBI presence in Nepal were made by various Nepalese human rights organisations in 2003. A number of international organisations, UN entities and embassies also supported the establishment of a PBI Project in Nepal. In 2004 and 2005, PBI sent three exploratory and training missions to Nepal. Following the first two assessment missions (August-October 2004 and January 2005), PBI approved the establishment of the Nepal Project in February 2005. PBI sent its last mission to Nepal April-August 2005 (Field Report, July 2005). In November 2005, the Nepal Project held its first training in Wustrow, Germany, and in February 2006, an advance team was sent to set up the project. Other volunteers followed shortly thereafter, and there has been a volunteer presence ever since. In October 2006 the PBI team started its first accompaniment relationship with Advocacy Forum, and in February 2007 started providing protective accompaniment for the Conflict Victims Committee. Three more trainings have since been held in July 2006 in Portugal, January 2007 in India and February 2008 in Spain, with volunteers subsequently being deployed on a rolling basis.
